HUMO/UR: Looking back to a 1940s version of “his” and “hers”

A post card from our Lois Guptill-McKay Collection. While the card was originally meant to be sent by Chester Guptill to his young daughter Lois back in the 1940s, it seems “decorum” resulted in a hand delivery after the fact.

Like today’s’ varying illustrations for “his” and “hers” public washrooms, the same idea existed 75 years ago but referenced cartoon characters of the day, Maggie and Jiggs. Not familiar with these two? Check them out here: Bringing up Father or Maggie & Jiggs
