You can make it fancy or the way I really like it … plain old fried dough with wild strawberry jam or just slathered with real butter!
It seems like yesterday rather than 60 years ago when I, my brothers, and every friend who was downwind would hang out and wait patiently for the fried dough that my Grand Manan born and bred mom would conjure up to delight her 4 male offspring.
Simple, effective, and oh so good!
Here’s the recipe for a real “Fundy Wonder” treat:
- Roll raised bread dough until it is about 1/8 of an inch thick.
- Cut it into squares, diamonds or other shapes of your choice.
- Allow them to rise for 10 to 15 minutes and then drop them into hot deep fat until they are well puffed and delicately brown.
- Serve with Bay of Fundy Maple Syrup, wild strawberry jam, blackstrap molasses or something sweet that you desire.
Fundy Dried Dough – a Fundy Wonder you won’t soon forget!
